I am on the fence as to how many stars to give this place. I am only giving it 3 stars because our server was great, the food, was mediocre at best. The prices were very reasonable, but I am used to paying NYC prices. We had 2 pizzas, some appetizers, and salads. Apps and salads were standard, run of the mill generic Italian food. The issue was the pizza. First off, you may have a 1000 degree oven, but the crust certainly doesn't taste like it. There was no charring, the edges were lightly done, and the middle was limp and soggy. When I bend a slice in half to eat, it is not supposed to collapse under its own weight. I have been to plenty of pizza places that feature wood or coal burning ovens and this didn't live up to what I expect. Also, the food was bland. The sauce on the pizzas was far too sweet and yet flavorless at the same time. It could have been greatly improved if someone used a lot more garlic and added some salt. Obviously, whoever made this sauce was not familiar with adding seasoning. I can't be a judge of how this compares to other Lansing area pizza places, but it would not survive in the NYC area. Maybe they can add some seasoning and cook the pies a little longer and things might be better.

I feel bad for Tony's, they're stuck behind the Eastwood Shopping Plaza, and I wasn't aware they were even there until my boyfriend pointed it out. The pizza was excellent. We had the Marco Polo and it was absolutely delicious. A small is enough to feed two people if you aren't that hungry, and a large will go a long way. The thin crust was great and perfectly cooked. I really appreciated the wait staff too. Our first pizza apparently came out burned, and they comped us by giving us some breadsticks to munch on while others in our party enjoyed their pizza (which were ALSO delicious). My only complaint is that it was a little bit loud, and my grandfather who was hard of hearing couldn't really understand what was going on. If you can, sit outside. Otherwise, I would definitely come back here!

Best thin crust pizza in Lansing! We started off by ordering their garlic rotoli's. Covered in a garlic olive oil and with a side of ranch they are heavenly! A must try. Ordered the chicken bruschetta and a pizza with bacon, pepperoni and jalapeños. Chicken bruschetta was one of the best pizzas I have ever had! The olive oil base was different from what I have had before. The other pizza was very good and the jalapeños added a nice kick. Craft selection was nice, even had Uncle Johns hard cider which is a great local favorite of mine. I had the Italian margarita and it was very good. Service is prompt and friendly. Will be going back!

Very good pizza close to Eastwood Towne Center. We had a large group on a Thursday and were surprised to discover it was half-priced pizza night. Our bill for 13 people was $130, and the adults all had at least one drink. They have patio seating, which is nice but looks out on to a giant dirt pile. Hopefully some future construction will improve the view!

We went to Tony Saccos after a long drive from Chicago to Holland to Lansing. My dad loves this place, so it was really no debate where we were going. I was happy to eat some thin crust pizza after the Chicago thick pizza debacle. It wasn't too busy late on a weekday evening, and we were seated immediately. It took a few tries to get something relevant on TV, but they eventually changed it. We ordered a pizza for each of us and started with a caesar salad. I got my pizza with chicken, pineapple, and spinach. It took a little bit for the salad to come out, and it was perfectly fine. Noting too special but enough to curb the hunger for a bit. The pizza came out, and it was very good. The chicken had a weird taste to it, but I think that's what they marinate it in, not because it's of a low quality. The rest of the pizza was fantastic--thin crust that was slightly burnt (just how I like it), and good veggies. They cook the pizzas in a 1000 degree anthracite coal oven, and it shows. Service was fine--our waitress was pleasant but a little slow. Fine for a late dinner. I'd have no problem coming back to Tony Saccos either in Lansing or near me in Charlotte.

First and foremost I'm from New York and I can tell you living in Michigan has been very depressing until I found Tony Saccos. Most pizza here in the Midwest taste like cardboard with an uneven amount of cheese and sauce. I was blown away by their Margherita Pizza. Definitely the best pizza I've had in Michigan and will continue to dine here every Friday!

Thank goodness! Coming from NYC we searched high and low for a legit thin crust pizza place. Not a fan of hand tossed or the thick crust pizza here. Each of the four places we tried prior held promise and each sadly disappointed. Way too much carb to topping ratio. You will love Tony's if you like super thin light and crispy style like they make it in Italy. This is not an NYC slice from your favorite place around the corner but the kind you'd get at sit down restaurants like Lombardi's or Patsy's. Nice lightly charred crust. Not soggy in the middle at all. This pizza is tasty, not greasy, not salty, and so satisfying without leaving you feeling guilty. Nice new place with sleek ambiance for a pizzeria, several flat screens and granite bar. Friendly service. Enjoyed the big Casear's salad, margherita, and Napoli pizza. We'll be back soon!

This has to be my favorite pizza place. As soon as you walk in you know it's going to be great pizza- you can actually watch them make it and put it in the coal oven. The ingredients are fresh! Has to be the healthiest pizza I ever had. Very thin crust - reminds me of the pizza I had in Italy. The service was also fantastic! I'll definitely be coming back here! If you are looking for a good pizza you don't have to feel guilty about eating this is where you should be!

"Meh" kinda sums it up. The "specialty" pizzas are uninspired. If the oven truly is coal fired and 1000 degrees as they claim then they don't know how to use it because the crust on the pizzas is no different than traditional thin crust cooked in a traditional pizza oven. Perhaps people complained about their crust being "burnt" when they really just didn't understand how it was supposed to be cooked. Now it is undercooked and lacks the flavor and crispness of a true coal fired pizza oven. Open kitchen concept allows you to watch the dough being worked from the bar, but also allows you to watch the dough-handler access a fridge that the servers are also regularly accessing (with unwashed hands). So, everything the servers are touching (money, etc.) ends up on the dough-handlers hands and then in the dough. Bartender was friendly and provided great service, though.

Amazing pizza! It was hard finding a good pizza place in the Lansing area! It was full of flavor at a reasonable price! The staff was very friendly too!

Been there. Great food. Unfortunately the manager just told me that groups of over 8 on a Saturday aren't allowed because they don't have room. Too bad. I guess we'll have to go somewhere else with our group of 25. Bad business practice. If u have a large group go to the Ann Arbor location. They are happy to accept groups.

It's fun to have a new restaurant in the Eastwood Town Center, but I didn't think there was too much to get excited about at Tony Sacco's. My dad and I stopped in on a Wednesday evening after a movie at nearby NCG, and the place was practically empty. It's an extremely casual vibe, mostly just a room full of the same sort of table. They serve alcohol but there isn't a bar area, and there is really zero atmosphere. Some of their alcohol is pretty inexpensive - I think I saw a $4 glass of wine on the menu. I got a glass of white wine and my dad and I ordered a Greek pizza to split. This sounds delicious on paper - it's a white pizza with roasted garlic, feta, olives, red onions, peperoncini, tomatoes, and spinach. But to me, the overall effect left something to be desired. The crust was definitely appealing, very crispy and thin. But the pizza didn't really have much flavor, the ingredients just seemed like an afterthought, all thrown together. I felt like the the taste was bland, though the texture was nice, and there is only so far texture can go to save a pizza. I think there are plenty of better places in town, in terms of atmosphere and quality, to get pizza. It is inexpensive, and in a great location, so there's that. But I wouldn't be especially excited to return.

I cannot give 3.5 stars but second note its close to 4 but not 4. Capo Pizza is very good. Very thin crust with brick taste at corners of the pizza. Service and location is pretty good. Scotch ale is decent too. If I'm around, give this place a good try.

This was my first time visiting Tony Saccos and it was soooo cold inside. This may have been because of the open floor plan and there were only five other people there at the time. Food wise, the caprese app I could do without. No flavor at all. The bread was very good and so were the wings. We had a decent party and ordered bbq pizza, margarita pizza and the greek. I was disappointed that the crust wasn't crispy like I thought it would be. The margarita left much to be desired to me. I know it's a lite piza but so lite you had bare areas on it? Very blah and bland to me. The bbq was quite good and I didn't sample to greek. The antipasto side salad was my favorite of all. Very nice olives, peppers, dressing and meat rolls. We will probably go back but I'll try something totally different.

Try the Roasted Garlic Hummus! It's awesome! Haven't had anything here that we didn't love. Service is always friendly and fast. Check it out on a Thursday for half price pizza!

Went on a weekday for lunch, to our surprise they had a pizza buffet. The buffet had about 4 types of pizza on it and rotolis (their version of garlic knots). The pizza was decent, as some of it was very burnt from the oven, and the rotolis could have been if they had anything on them, they were essentially bread dough. We had to ask for dipping sauces because everything was so dry and they brought us two tiny cups for four very hungry people. The waitress was absent most of the time but I'm sure she isn't use to working during buffet hours, and buffet dishes piled up on the table.

Have been 3 times, each visit consistently like the previous one. I feel they have potential they have not acheived yet. Like a previous yelper stated, we had a lot of interruptions by wait staff. I appreciate they want to make sure we have all we need, but asking every 7 minutes is ....distracting from conversations with family/friends. Personally, I love their pizza crust. It is thinner, and sometimes crispier on edges than you may have been expecting. The regular pie thickness is on thin side and often the rest of the slice can't hold up (flops w/just cheese, and no additional toppings). I personally like this but if you are a fan of deep dish, firm crust, this may not do it for you. Salads are great - enough for several to share. Drinks seemed priced competitively priced with other Eastwood restaurants. It's true, it is very loud inside, which I think keeps wait staff from making a connection with diners (unless you like yelling at each other) so maybe they try to make up for lack of conversation w/diners by continuallly asking if they need anything else. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean on each visit we made.

Great service, great pizzas and appetizers. And good happy hour deals. 50% off appetizers. We had almost all the items on the appetizer menu. The garlic rotolis were absolutely delicious. The sausage and peppers were very flavorful. The wings were dynamite, flavorful and hot. The chopped roasted pepper and basil pesto hummus were good as well the caprese was decent. I would recommend a bit of salt and black pepper sprinkled on it and a side of balsamic vinegar as well. As for the pizzas, we had the capo, Greek and Marco Polo. All three were very good. Loved the thin style pizzas. Very crispy. Of particular, I loved the Greek. I will definitely come back to try more of the other pizzas. Drink specials were great as well. Thanks!

Oh Tony, so hidden, so quiet next to the big blue and green building next to you. My family, you see, we consider ourselves growing subject matter experts on pizza available in the Lansing area. Being a family with tween aged children, pizza must be a priority, you understand. So, we came into your restaurant with high hopes. We always do. You did not disappoint. We came in on a Wednesday evening to a lightly peopled restaurant- busy but casual. Our server was incredibly courteous, and prompt. She's a keeper. We ordered the Caesar salad, a margherita and a pepperoni.. something, extravaganza or something. It doesn't matter, a rose by any other name and all.. We got our salad quickly. The homemade croutons were a nice touch. A perfectly serviceable well executed Caesar. And then.. we waited. I had just begun to wonder- literally, yes that literally, when the server came up and informed us she'd forgotten to put in the order (hence the four star). She apologized, let us know our pizzas were the next to come out and said she'd send a manager over, still touchingly polite. The manager came over and graciously took care of the situation to our amused satisfaction- like I said we'd *just* started wondering where our food was. The pizzas themselves- fantastic thin crust pizza. I'm not typically a fan of pizza sauces, I'd sooner leave them out than deal with them. But the sauce here was light, and fresh, not overly applied and certainly not murdering my taste buds with dried oregano, garlic or whatever else you might expect from a canned sauce. The crust? Oh yeah.. that's the stuff, light and crisp as many other have stated, a little charred on the outside. It worked, however, and like I told my husband, "I've never had a pepperoni pizza feel so fancy while still staying so unpretentious." . well okay I hedged that a bit, but that's more or less the gist of what I actually said. The meal as a whole left us feeling surprisingly lighthearted- typically after doing a pizza review we feel guilty.. oh the perils of carb binging. This restaurant will enter our regular rotation on that point alone. Thanks, Tony Sacco's- we had a fabulous time! Because of your attention, the "late" pizza felt more like a minor speed bump than a major flaw in our experience.

My first time!! It was my son's 20th birthday and he chose Tony's. Our server was great. The appetizers were great and so was the pizza. I will definitely be back. Thanks for making the birthday so great.

Fun loft style inside nice sidewalk patio outside. Caprese app was good though the slices off mozzarella were extremely thin. Capo Pizza had really great flavor and the crust was a-ok : Capo - Pepperoni, sweet Italian sausage, roasted mushrooms and caramelized onions. $20 for a glass of wine, splits of a caprese and pizza with leftovers seems like a great deal to me! I will definitley go back when I'm in town!

Not sure what the hype is. There are plenty of places in Lansing that sell (better) pizza and (cheaper) beer. Surely nobody comes here for the ambiance. It has the feel of a large high school cafeteria. Tables are really crammed in the open, loud dining area. The pizza was meh. We had a margarita, just ham and some meaty confection for the carnivores. The crust has a nice texture, but almost no flavor (unless wet Kleenex is a flavor). The pizza sauce is likewise bland. I thought the quantity of toppings was adequate (not being a fan of the 7 lb pizza slice), but wish they'd advertised that they put shreds of basil on every pizza (which the kid loudly objected to). The antipasto salad was both visually and gustatorially vile. Really, Lansing, I think you're just so desperate for decent restaurants that novelty passes for quality.

Pizza is delicious! Don't expect the typical thick mid western style crust. It's a New York style crust. All their food is made fresh every day. They don't even have freezers there, so you know everything is made daily.

Went in Sept '12...The place has been open for a while now so we decided to check it out. Very crowded with a hour wait on a Friday night. Pretty unimaginative decor, and uncomfortably loud... The staff looked to all be high school/ young college age....Had to ask for service at the bar, I ordered a simple whiskey and coke and received tequila and coke... Really? Who would even order that??? Finally got seated and ordered a very simple cheese pizza and an appetizer of sausage and peppers.... The appetizer tasted fine but was clearly composed of a pile of minced up tiny bits of sausage and peppers also being used to top pizzas...lame. The pizza looked good, but the crust was limp... This is what other reviewers complain about and its not the way this style of pizza should be...it tasted only just ok and was very average... Frankly Sbarro achieves a much better pizza experience was isnt saying much. I really get the feeling that this place and Bar 30 next door are basically just shopping mall establishments with pretty low aspirations.... Sorry. Fail.

I'm drooling just thinking about their pizza. Soo delicious and savory. Love the basil and garlic olive oil. But sometimes they put on a bit too much oil and it makes a mess, and most of the time the wait staff comes by way too often.

We went on Friday 6/22. Got there around 7pm and there was a 20 minute wait. Went to the bar. The service at the bar was great. He was courteous, attentive, and quick with the drinks. It was really noisy so we decided to ask for an outdoor table even though we need there would be a longer wait. By 745 we were at our table. Our server was fine. Not really memorable. We started with the garlic rolls and the small antipasto. There was plenty for the 3 of us. I can't remember the name of the pizza but it had sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms. It was delicious. The food bill was only $30 which I thought was reasonable. We stayed for happy hour and the drink specials. I would go there again and recommend others try it.

How do you manage to ruin a pizza with a coal oven? Not only was the outside charred, but it was raw in the middle. And the place was SO LOUD, even when it was half-empty. Wait staff was busy arranging silverware and napkins, which added to the headache. Then they had half the restaurant's chairs stacked on top of the table before 9:30pm. All of which I could deal with if the pizza was good. And it wasn't. If you want good pizza in this area, head to Paul Revere's (and they do take-out, too). Tony, you have let me down. I weep now.

the food was ok...pizza was all you could eat at lunch and they where really skimpy on it. For a restaurant just starting out you would think that they would serve there best on a pizza bar like this so that I would want to buy a whole pizza. How do you ruin a pizza in a wood oven? Well you skim and don't put anything on it. The toppings where so meager that I will not be going back. I got 3 salads and they where ok. One small slice of tiny tomato and shavings of onion nothing like Demarcos or even Sir pizza. I figure it should of been better. I guess they are on a skinny pizza budget. Oh they have 54 calorie beer for $2.50 !

  • Anne A.

Pizza was only adequate. Too charred on the bottom. Would have thought there would be more toppings on the pizza. There were some nice combinations of specialty pizza toppings. Server was prompt and attentive. Interior set-up is cold, unwelcoming and noisy; no charm or warmth. (Hoping management will change that up since lots of reviews talk about that.) Also, nearly ran over broken glass in the parking lot. Would like to see this place improve and would be glad to re-review in the future.

The vegetarian pizza is really good but that's the only one I've tried. Service is friendly and pretty quick. The noise level is very frustrating. If you go when it's busy you really have to yell to have a conversation with the people around you. Went on a Saturday night once and the wait was an hour long, so go early if you plan to dine here on a weekend evening. Overall, an ok place to get some pizza. Not exceptional but not bad.

  • Gerrie M.

Cabo pizza was good. Rolls needed more seasoning, which was provided at the table. Beer selections is very limited which is always disappointing to us. Server was a little slow getting to us at first, but improved once we ordered. The dining area is large and noisy with very little to offer as far as atmosphere. A/C was blowing so hard I had to wear my sunglasses keep my eyes from watering. It would probably be an okay place for a group gathering. Next visit I plan to try sitting in the patio area.

Found this place on a fluke. As a New Yorker I never rate a pizza/Italian place high but this coal fired pizza was excellent. We got the Aloha. The waitress was also superb. Haven't had service this good anywhere in a long time.

The Bianco pizza was subtly flavored and perfect. The Capo was outstanding and the sweet sausage put it over the top. The service was very good and the atmosphere was nice. Once the construction is done in the nearby lots it should be quite nice.

Tried this place Labor Day weekend, and had a great experience. The pizza is as good as you would hope for a traditional approach to thin crust. The Margherita featured fresh sliced mozzarella and basil with a nicely crisped crust. The pizza is a tad on the pricey end, but makes for a very reasonable dinner for two. The patio was a great spot to be on a warm evening.

  • Heidi D.

Sat on the patio and enjoyed delicious garlic rotolis, a pizza cooked in a coal burning oven with a wonderful choice of fresh toppings, a crisp glass of wine and to finish it off ..yes there's more ..Sacco's Shortcake made with homemade vanilla mousse fresh seasonal berries and whipped cream. Yup I'm done stick a fork in me :) Yes!! My husband and I will be back!!!

KDined here twice and thought pizza was excellent Tried their takeout on fathers day and it sucked. Pizza was undercooked And the amount of toppings used was minuscule Very disappointing If u go here eat outside On patio The atmosphere inside is like a cafeteria very noisy

  • Dean K.

The pizza had good flavors that individually could be recognized with each bite! Toppings make these pizzas stand out from others in Lansing. It is good to walk away from the table having something that tastes good and doesn't make you feel like you just finished eating 5 lbs of cheese.

Been here 3 Times now and it is delicious! Perfectly baked crust!

  • Carrielle B.

The crust was perfectly crispy and the pizza delicious. We had the Capo, sans the onions since we don't like them. I think it's one of the best pizzas I've had outside Chicago. I don't understand the bad reviews, the pizza was amazing and easily one of Lansing's best (only contenders would be Deluca's and the Pizza House but I'd give it a tie). The picture of a "basic cheese pizza" someone posted looked nothing like what we had. We had a thin and crispy crust, just what you'd expect from a coal oven. I wonder if maybe they've improved since those reviews were written, but I couldn't say. I do know I plan to go back on Friday and take my family who is coming in from out of town. Maybe I'll try to get a picture then. I will say that the service was a little bit slow but it was a Friday night and busy so they get a pass.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
